Appeal for funds: fighting the bedroom tax in Manchester

Over the past few weeks activists in South Manchester have been working very hard to prepare the ground for an offensive against the bedroom tax.

A launch meeting is planned for 10th April, where we hope to encourage residents to play a leading role in spreading information, offering community support and of course fighting the tax with a political campaign.

We want to follow the meeting up with a leafleting, postering, stickering and door-to-door campaign. But this kind of work, vital to fighting the cuts, costs money.

Our initial leafleting campaign is costing £140, our discounted room booking £40, and to run the most effective campaign we’d like to follow it up with posters, stickers, and then a second round of leaflets which will likely cost another £150-£200.

We know times are tough, but this is a really important battle in the fight against cuts and solidarity is needed.

If you’d be willing to make a donation – no matter how large or small, please let us know by emailing southmcr.no2bedtax [at]

Thanks to SK for a donation of £100, this now means we’ve almost covered our leafleting costs and can think about other materials too.
